Ranu Mukherjee is a multimedia artist exploring the effects of global capitalism on traditional Indian and Eastern cultures. She makes hybrid films, paintings, silkscreens on paper, and collaborative projects that use strong, dramatic color to juxtapose modern and traditional objects. Her series “Absorption into the Nomadic and the Luminous” (2011)—including Kiss us with your mouth of nectar—investigates the nomad in its various guises and its relationship to modernity and urban life. Mukherjee also explores creolization and the intrusion of the language of advertising into traditional narrative-making.
